Introduction

On April 19, 2012, I bought my first house.  It's a 683sqft one bedroom craftsman house that was built in 1924.  It's in a great neighborhood called Mt. Washington, which is like the Topanga Canyon of Los Angeles' east side.  I have a neighbor on one side of me, and a protected canyon park on the other.  I've called my home "The Treehouse" since day one.  From the street, it looks like there is just a staircase leading up into the trees.  And from the wrap-around deck in front of the house, you feel like you're really in a treehouse.  There are four huge avocado trees that shade the deck and allow for a lot of privacy.
There are a bunch of different projects I've been working on for the house, and I've decided to share them.  My boyfriend and I are big believers in self-sufficiency and in doing things ourselves if we can.  This blog serves a few purposes.  One is to keep track of all the work we put into the house and the changes we make to it.  The other is so that family and friends, near and far, can see all the cool stuff we're doing.  Finally, it's to show people that you don't have to have any idea what you're doing (because I'm honestly just winging it here) to make improvements to your home.
